Kathmandu, Dec 23: Speakers
at a programme here have stressed the need for keeping judiciary aloof from
politics and anomalies, so that the legal practice would be stable and
reliable.
At a programme
organized on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of Nepal Bar Association in
the capital city on Monday, the speakers also pointed out the need of
restructuring of the judicial council.
The legal
practitioners said the judiciary and judicial council should be made
accountable to the people and the transparency maintained while appointing
judge.
At the programme,
Chief Justice Ramkumar Prasad Saha said only judge and employees' groups are
not the court. The legal practitioners are the integral parts of the court, he
said, adding that anomalies in the judiciary were also gradually creeping into
the legal practice.
He suggested Nepal
Bar Association to regard court not as its rival but as a platform of
professional exercise and respect.
The CJ also suggested
all concerned to keep judiciary away from political interference and not to use
it as a tool.
Similarly, Attorney
General Baburam Kunwar said Nepal Bar and the legal practice would have better
future once the judiciary was independent and effective.
Former Attorney
General Dr Yuvraj Sangraula said the aberrations in the judiciary must end by
ensuring transparency in appointment of judge.
However, Association
Chairman Hari Krishna Karki said the integrity of judiciary depends also on the
behaviour of the legal practitioners. RSS
