Kathmandu, Dec
22: Deliberations continued on the 2071 report of the Constitutional-Political
Dialogue and Consensus Committee (CPDCC) at today's meeting of the Constituent
Assembly (CA) that began nearly after two hours later than the slated time.
At the outset
of the programme, Nepali Congress (NC) CA member Ananda Prasad Dhungana said
there is no alternative but to promulgate a new constitution on January 22 as
per the promise made before the people.
Bhim Acharya
of the CPN-UML expressed grief over zero progress so far on constitution
writing despite spending more than eight years and stressed that the CA should
not miss the golden opportunity this time to deliver the statute.
UCPN (Maoist)
lawmaker Hitraj Pandey argued that it would not be acceptable to bring out
constitution through process given the incumbent CA has owned up the works
carried out by erstwhile CA.
CA member from
Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Bhaskar Bhadra accused the deliberations so
far made in connection with framing constitution of being ritual and commented
that the inaction on part of leaders of the big political parties was behind
the failure of CPDCC.
Rastriya
Prajatantra Party (RPP) CA member Jayant Chand said the constitution should be
promulgated even by going to the extent of process.
Usha Yadav of
Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (MJF) expressed wrath over NC and UML's stance of
promulgating new constitution via process instead of putting efforts for
forging consensus.
Also speaking
on the occasion were Lokmani Dhakal of Rastriya Janajagaran Party, Sher Bahadur
Tamang of CPN-UML.
CA Chairperson
Subas Nembang announced to hold next meeting of the CA at 13:00 pm on December
23 to continue deliberations on the report. RSS
