Beni (Myagdi), Nov 10: Both the human health and aquatic beings are in risk due to garbage dumping in the Kaligandaki and Myagdi Rivers.
The
garbage from the district is collected at district headquarters Beni Bazaar and
dumped on the banks of the Kaligandaki River near Ratopahiro.
The
river water is polluted with the garbage thereby affecting the human health and
the lives in water.
Even the
sewerages are emptied in the Kaligandaki River. Five tractors of garbage dumped
daily on the river bank has not only polluted the river but also emanated
stench which has discouraged the pilgrims to Muktinath and Galeshwor.
The
devotees find it squalid to have a holy dip in the river on different religious
festivals.
The
locals said they have begun suffering from various skin diseases for bathing in
the polluted river.
In
addition to the Beni municipality, the people from Parbat and other places in
Myagdi district strew and dump garbage haphazardly in the river.
However,
the municipality said it was seeking alternative to the Ratopahiro to manage
the garbage, but yet to find.
Nepali
Congress district secretary Madhav Regmi informed that time has come to
formulate a plan to seek an alternative place for dumping. RSS
