Chautara, Nov 8: Despite a campaign to
announce open defecation free zone by 2015 to Sindhupalchowk district, the
result is not likely in the given timeframe due to lack of government offices'
support.
The
VDCs in the remote areas in the district have already met the target but the
settlements in the urban areas and government offices are not supportive of the
campaign.
Public
toilets have not been constructed in the urban areas including in district
headquarters Chautara, Brahabise, Khadichaur and Tatopani.
The
septic tanks of Tatopani Customs Office, Immigration Office and Armed Police
Force (APF) have been mixed into the Bhotekoshi River while the locals in the
area have also done the same adding to pollution in Bhotekoshi and Sunkoshi
rivers.
However,
the Tatopani VDC Office said toilets are yet to be constructed in the VDC's
urban areas.
Likewise,
the locals of Kodari and Liping areas have also mixed the septic tanks into the
Bhotekoshi River.
VDC
secretary Dambar Bahadur Shrestha said that the VDC would be declared open
defecation free zone by mid-March. RSS
