Kathmandu, Nov 11: The 18th
SAARC Summit Preparation Main Committee today reviewed the preparations going
on for the summit as regards its management, financial aspect and security,
among others.
The 18th summit of the
South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is taking place here
on 26 and 27 of this month.
Prime Minister and Coordinator of
the Main Committee, Sushil Koirala, chaired the meeting held at Singh Durbar.
The meeting was informed by the Ministry concerned that most of the preparatory
works for the Summit have been completed and the remaining works would be
carried out by November 16.
After the meeting, Deputy Prime
Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bamdev Gautam said all the preparatory
works regarding security aspects for the SAARC Summit have been completed and
no any lack would be allowed to that end.
"We are all ready for the Summit," he asserted.
Minister for Foreign Affairs
Mahendra Bahadur Pandey said the meeting reviewed the works done so far
including the beutification of Kathmandu and the bodies concerned expressed
their commitment to fulfill the remaining works within November 16.
He said invitation has been sent out
to all the member countries of SAARC as well as the Observers and their
participation confirmed. The preparation of the required documents has also
been completed, he added.
According to the Minister for
Foreign Affairs, three separate agreements on energy, railway and transport are
to be signed during the Summit. He also informed that Nepal and India would
also be signing on an agreement on operating transport between Kathmandu and
New Delhi.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs
stated that they were excited that dignitaries' including the Indian Prime
Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled programmes to visit many religious places in
Nepal after the SAARC Summit, saying the visits would support in the promotion
of tourism in the country.
