Jumla, Dec 4: Jumla
has been declared 39th diclofenac free district as part of campaign to reduce
impact of diclofenac drug usage on vulture protection.
The district was
declared diclofenac-free zone under the aegis of District Agriculture
Development Office Jumla and Nepal Birds Preservation Association Kathmandu.
On the occasion,
Association Field Officer Bhupal Nepali said though there were tens of
thousands vultures in existence in 80s and 90s of 19th century the number has
invariably declined later with the excessive use of diclophenac sodium.
Now there are nine
different species of vultures in existence in Nepal and its population has
declined by 91 per cent in the country, Nepali said.
Jatau restaurants
have been set up in seven different places of six districts for protecting
vultures from extinction, he added. RSS
