Kathmandu, Dec 2: Minister for Foreign
Affairs Mahendra Bahadur Pandey has said that the bilateral relations between
Nepal and Thailand are not limited to the political level alone but it has
expanded to the social and cultural level as well.
Addressing a programme organized by the
Solidarity Monthly Publication on the occasion of the 55th
anniversary of Nepal-Thailand bilateral relations here today, Minister Pandey
said that the existing bilateral relations should be strengthened in the days
ahead.
He said that the bilateral relations
should be made stronger as Thailand is a Buddhist country and Nepal is the
birth place of Lord Buddha.
Minister Pandey further said that
international highway linking Thailand, Myanmar and India is the symbol of cultural
relations in the South Asia region and hoped it would be effective to link the
regions.
Mrs Jiraporn Sudanich, Thai Minister
Counselor and Deputy Chief of Mission to Nepal said that the bilateral
relations should be developed as a limestone for South to South economic
development centre.
On
the occasion, former ambassador Hiranya Lal Shrestha said the bilateral
relations between these countries should be interpreted through the perspective
of Hindu and Buddha religion along with politics and culture.
Similarly, Nepali Congress central member at
the Foreign Department Chauan Shrestha and UCPN (Maoist) central member at the
Department Yubraj Chaulagain pointed out the need of further extending
bilateral relations in the days ahead. RSS
