Kathmandu, Dec 2: Prime Minister Sushil
Koirala has said no agreements and treaties would be reached putting the
country in a weak position.
The Prime Minister said this while
addressing a condolence assembly and a programme for laying the foundation
stone for construction of a chorten (memorial) and a bust of the Nepali
Congress leader the late Bhim Bahadur Tamang, here today. The programme was
organised by the Nepal Tamang Association commemorating the third death
anniversary of Tamang.
Urging the people not to be misled
by the propaganda that the country's rivers have been sold out due to the
treaties and agreements reached for bringing in foreign investment required for
utilization of the country's natural resources, PM Koirala said he would never
enter into any treaties or agreements putting the nation in a weak spot.
Prime Minister Koirala, who is also
the President of the Nepali Congress, directed the party rank and file to walk
on the political path of principles and honesty shown by the late Tamang,
adding that a new constitution should be promulgated on the stipulated date
through the institutional development of peace and democracy for paying sincere
tributes to the late leader.
Regarding federalism, the Prime Minister
said that he was for forming the least number of provinces, pointing out that
forming more provinces would not be economically sustainable in the context of
the inability to even construct a Parliament building.
NC central committee member and
convenor of the Bhim Bahadur Tamang Memorial Foundation, Dr Sashank Koirala
said the late Tamang's persona as a sincere person and his political ideals
have infused energy to the party till date, calling on all to emulate the path
of honesty and integrity for which the late leader had stood for all his life.
CA member and party central
committee member Dhanraj Gurung and other CA members Dilman Pakhrin, Bahadur Lama, Taraman Gurung, Tirtha
Lama and Pushpalata Lama and leaders Jip
Tshering Lama, Indra Bahadur Gurung and Kebal Bahadur Tamang underpinned the
need of issuing a new constitution on the stipulated date as the true tribute
to the late Tamang.
On the occasion, Prime Minister
Koirala laid the foundation stone for construction of a Chorten (memorial) and
a statue of the late Tamang at the place where he was interred. RSS
