Samsung expected to sell over 50 million Galaxy S6 units

Earlier this month, a CitiBank analyst predicted thatSamsung would ship 46 million Galaxy S6 smartphones before the end of the year. Now, according to new estimations, the South Korean company may actually sell over 50 million units (obviously including both the S6 and S6 edge models).

The new estimation comes from Taiwan-based market intelligence provider DRAMeXchange / TrendForce. Reportedly, Samsung is expected to sell over 22 million Galaxy S6 handsets in the second quarter of the year (April - June), over 16 million units in the third quarter (July - September), and at least 12 million units in the fourth quarter (October - December).

In case you haven't heard, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge will be available around the world starting April 10 (though maybe not all color variants will be released from day one). While Samsung is already accepting pre-orders for the two handsets in some markets (like the UK), pre-orders in the US will start in April

The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge run Android 5.0 Lollipop with an enhanced version of TouchWiz, and are powered by Samsung's own 64-bit Exynos 7 Octa 7420 processor. Both have Quad HD displays, and storage capacities of up to 128 GB. The main difference between Samsung's new flagship smartphones is that the S6 offers a regular display, while the S6 edge comes with a curved screen that partially covers its right and left edges.
