Constitution through majority votes if not agreement : DPM Singh

Birgunj, Nov 9: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Local Development Prakashman Singh today pledged to promulgate the much-awaited new constitution on time through majority votes if not possible through a consensus.

Inaugurating a new building of a community library at Pokhariya VDC in Parsa, Minister Singh alleged that consensus had remained evasive owing to UCPN (Maoist) pressure to have their demands addressed.

The Minister said that his party Nepali Congress was continuing the efforts and cooperation with the parties for an agreement to issue Federal Democratic Republican Constitution.

Congress is in favour of an electoral system with 50 per cent proportional representation and 50 per cent direct representation, DPM Singh said, adding that political instability had affected the development process of the country.

The library was constructed at a cost of Rs. 3 million with the support of READ Nepal. RSS
