Nov 15: The International Buddhist Conference begins in Lumbini, the birthplace
of Shakyamuni Siddhartha Gautam today.
President
Dr Ram Baran Yadav is scheduled to inaugurate the four-day conference.
As
part of the preparations to the conference, prayers and lighting of oil-fed
lamps in and around the Mayadi temple premises was carried out on Friday
evening.
The
conference is organized jointly by Nepal Therawad Buddhist Academy and Sitagu
International Buddhist Academy of Myanmar, according to publicity coordinator
Nabin Chitrakar.
More
than 400 Buddhist monks and scholars from 30 countries are taking part in the
conference where 94 working papers are scheduled to be presented and discussed.
