Kathmandu, Nov 8: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli
has said that the latest NC-UML proposal in the new constitution making process
was for forging a consensus.
Addressing the meeting of the party's central
committee in the capital on Friday, Chairman Oli said the proposal had put an
end to the series of abstract and endless discussions while pushing the
opposition to come to a consensus.
"It has also provided a strong foundation
for promulgating the new constitution on January 22", he said.
Stating that the UML was determined to bring the
new constitution on time, the UML Chair made it clear that efforts shall be
made for a full consensus but the constitution could be promulgated on the
basis of sufficient majority and consensus of maximum sides in case a complete
consensus was not possible.
The new constitution should open the door for
happier Nepalis and a prosperous Nepal, he added, while urging all to remain
alert of the danger of the country taking a different political course if the
constitution was not drafted on time.
The central committee meeting today was postponed
for December 8, with a decision to concentrate all the energy of the party to
promulgating the new constitution as per schedule, according to a statement
issued by the party's General Secretary Iswar Pokharel here today. RSS
