Kathmandu, Nov 8: Various organizations active in
the sports sector honoured the only medalist from Nepal in the recent Asian Games
(ASIAD), Bimala Tamang, amid a programme organized in the capital on Saturday.
She also received a cash prize of Rs. 250,000 on
the occasion. Tamang won bronze in the 17th ASIAD held in Inchon,
South Korea.
Speaking at the programme organized by Balaju
Karate Do Foundation, UCPN (Maoist) secretary and deputy leader of the UCPN
(Maoist) Parliamentary Party Top Bahadur Rayamajhi said sports was one of the
index of national development and the sports sector and athletes should be away
from the politics.
Nepal can
win recognition in the international level through sports only if the nation
moved ahead with good development plans for the sector, Rayamajhi added.
Lawmaker Laxman Rajbamshi and Parshuram Tamang
said the sports sector should work for producing sportsperson who could win
accolades for the country in the world.
Awarded personality Tamang said the Nepali sports
lovers' felicitation had encouraged to work for more success. RSS
