Kathmandu, Nov 9: The Public Account
Committee (PAC) has directed the Commission of Investigation Abuse of Authority
(CIAA) regarding its inquiry on the construction of the Kathmandu Tower.
The PAC meeting held on Sunday has
written to the CIAA to inform about the complaints filed at the CIAA and nature
of investigation regarding the construction of 30-storey-high structure
(Kathmandu Tower) in the Old Bus Park, said Chairman of the Committee Janardan
Sharma.
Kathmandu
Metropolis has been planning to provide the responsibilities for the
construction of the tower to Jaleshwor Swachchhanda Koi JV, a private
construction company.
It
has been reported that the metropolis is going to construct the tower without
getting permission from the bodies concerned. It is claimed that the metropolis
need to take permission with Nepal Army, Civil Aviation of Authority of Nepal,
Ministry of Urban Development, and Kathmandu Valley Development Authority, among other bodies concerned.
Lawmakers expressed their concern
claiming that the government has given permission for constructing such big
structure without evaluating the environmental impact.
The PAC meeting held a few days ago
decided to hold talks with the Chief Commissioner of the CIAA Lokman Singh
Karki by saying that the investigating process was rather complicated as the
case was filed in the PAC and the CIAA.
But the Sunday's PAC meeting decided
to discuss with Chief Commissioner Lokman Singh Karki after holding necessary
discussions in the Committee itself.
Ramhari Khatiwada, Tek Bahadur
Basnet, Dhanraj Gurung, Rupa Maharjan, Bhanubhakta Dhakal, and Dil Bahadur
Basnet, among others put forth their views on Sunday's meeting. RSS
