Kathmandu, Nov 14: The
Legislature-Parliamentary Women, Children, Senior Citizen and Social Welfare
Committee, and Health and Population sub-Committee on Friday made an inspection
tour of the state-owned Bir Hospital.
During the visit, members of the
Committee team interacted with the patients and doctors, and inspected the
condition of the Hospital's premises, its x-ray, medical science lab, Out
Patient Department (OPD) and the Emergency Ward.
The team also inquired about the fees
charged over patients, pharmacy, quality of the food given to the sick, and
condition of sanitation.
The lawmakers after the inspection
called for special attention to sanitation in the Hospital.
Hospital's Vice Chancellor Prof Dr
Ganesh Gurung complained that the Health Ministry had not given due attention
to the plight of the Hospital and that reform works had stalled owing to lack
of budget.
The Bir Hospital established with an aim
to provide health service to poor and needy is still operating under the
structure and human resources system as old as 35 years. RSS
