(Rautahat), Nov 15: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala Koirala has said efforts were
on to bring the UCPN (Maoist) and Madhes-centric parties to a consensus
regarding the contentious issues of a new constitution.
Addressing a
mass meeting organised by Nepali Congress Rautahat at Auraiya VDC Saturday, the
PM assured of the timely promulgation of a new constitution.
A new constitution would be promulgated within upcoming
January 22 even through a majority process if UCPN (M) and Madhes-centric
parties do not come to an agreement, he said.
PM Koirala, also the Nepali Congress President recalled the contribution of Rautahat-based
democratic fighters and Congress leaders the late Shekh Idris, Ramswarup Sinha
and Ramchandra Ojha in strengthening the
party in the Madhes.
Political stability, durable peace and drafting of a new
constitution were essential to attain economic progress, he stressed, adding
monarchy was thrown from the country to ensure people's rights and anyone
intending to disrupt the constitution-drafting will face the similar fate of
former King Gyanendra.
On the same occasion, Minister for Physical Infrastructure
and Transport and lawmaker Bimalendra Nidhi pledged all possible efforts to
ensure a timely constitution.
