Kathmandu,
Nov 16: The Supreme Court today issued a mandamus requiring providing security
and travel allowances to the women witnesses in cases of violence against women
(VAW), giving priority to them.
A
joint bench of the court justices Gopal Parajuli and Cholendra Shumsher JBR
stated in the mandamus order that travel allowances be ensured to the witnesses
of the genuine victim side, transparency be maintained by noting the bill of
receipt of the allowance in the court documents belonging to the person
accepting the allowance and ensuring the provision that this transaction is
apparent while carrying out auditing at the Office of the Attorney General.
The
joint bench issued the mandamus in response to a writ filed by advocate Devaki
Pokharel in July. The Ministry of Finance was also named as the defendant in
