DEO fiat to brick kilns to stop child labour

           

Bhaktapur, Dec 10: The District Education Office (DEO), Bhaktapur has issued directives to the brick kiln operators in the district not to employ children as labourers in the brick kilns and to run compulsory classes for the children of the labourers working there.

            Writing to 60 brick kilns operating in the district, DEO Bhaktapur warned the brick kiln proprietors against using child labour and to mandatorily run classes for each and every child coming there, the District Education Officer Ramakanta Sharma said.

           

            He said the DEO's this step comes as it is found that a majority of the children in the brick kilns have dropped out and taken up hazardous work there.

           

            The directive also comes in the context of the preparations being made for declaring the district fully literate and free from child labour. RSS
