Kathmandu, Dec 27: Human rights
activists have laid emphasis on the need of promulgating the human rights-friendly
constitution on the slated time.
At an interaction organised on the
occasion of 10th annual general meeting and fourth convention of the
Human Rights Journalists' Association (HURJA) here today, member of the
National Human Rights Commission, Prakash Wasti, said the human rights-friendly
constitution should be issued on coming January 22 to protect the human rights
of the people.
Stating that the NHRC was formulating a
six-year strategy for human rights protection, Mr Wasti said it has been taking
initiative to ensure the rights in practice.
Similarly, Chairperson of the National
Women's Commission, Sheikh Chandtara, said people are deprived of utilizing
peace, good governance and human rights as the state is weak, adding it is
necessary to ensure rural people's access to human rights.
Likewise, Chairman of Press Council
Nepal, Borna Bahadur Karki, stressed on the need of bringing human rights-friendly
statute to protect the rights of the people from all cultures and communities.
Mentioning that new constitution was
necessary for the protection and promotion of rule of law and human rights,
President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Dr Mahedra Bista said the
new constitution should ensure basic needs of people.
Chairperson of NGO Federation Sharmila
Karki and senior human rights activist Professor Kapil Shrestha stressed that
the new constitution was must on time as per the commitment political leaders
made before the people.
HURJA Chairman Chhatra Shankar Karki
said that the State, human rights activists and bodies concerned should pay
attention as cases of human rights violation are increasing. RSS
