Kathmandu, Dec 9: The
need of effective implementation of the Guidelines to Prevent Sexual Harassment
at Work Place, 2065 BS has been highlighted at a programme organised here
Monday in connection with the 16-day campaign against violence against women.
Women rights defenders,
speaking in an interaction programme on identification of the problems faced by
women and girls working in dance restaurants and bars, strongly demanded the
effective implementation of the Guidelines.
The interaction was
organised by the Alliance Against Trafficking in Women and Children in Nepal
(AATWIN).
The 16-day campaign
against violence against women (VAW) is underway around the slogan of 'From
Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Let's Challenge Militarism and End
Violence Against Women,' from 25 November to 10 December.
The women rights
defenders also underlined the need of complete implementation of the Labour Act
and changing the mindset towards the women working in hotels, dance restaurants
and bars for resolving the problems faced by the women and girls working in
these sectors.
Women rights campaigner
Benu Maya Gurung demanded strong punitive measures for the males seeking
service from women sex workers.
Sapana Thapa who
sings and performs at a dance restaurant in the capital, complained that
policemen who are drunk misbehaved with them while they were returning home
after work at night and also took them to police station and harassed them for
