Stakeholders at a programme here have strongly voiced that the trend of some
unscrupulous people posing as landless to grab land should be stamped out and
the genuine landless should be provided with land for livelihood.
At the interaction
titled 'Landlessness: the Problem of Landless Squatters and Our Role' organisd
by the District Land Rights Forum, Saptari here on Monday, most speakers
underlined the need for identifying the genuine landless and providing them
with livelihood support for addressing this perennial problem.
Member of the
Landless Squatters Problem Resolution Commission, Saptari chapter, Shiva Kumar
Paswan, said that although the successive governments have been constituting
commissions for resolving the landless squatters problem, the problem remains
as it is as the commissions are not provided with full authority and autonomy.
CPN (UML) local
leader Govinda Neupane stressed on the need of implementing a 'scientific' land
reform policy for resolving the landless squatter problem. Federation of Nepali

Prakash Khatiwada called for an immediate solution of the problem.
Chairperson of the
Land Rights Forum Saptari , Neelam Sada presided over the programme in which
representatives from the landless squatters community and organisations working
for the rights of the landless stressed the need for the State to devise and
