Kathmandu, Dec
08: Nepal Press Union has expressed dissatisfaction over the minimal penalty
announced in the case of the murder of journalist Dekendra Thapa, while also
respecting the decision announced by the Dailekh district court on Sunday.
Issuing a statement
here today, the Union has said that though the penalty was sought as per
chapter 13(3) of the Civil Code the decision was made on the basis of 17 (3) of
the code, thereby leading to light sentence against the accused.
The Union has
also demanded that the Government appeal against the decision in consideration
of the sentiments of the stakeholder journalists, right activists and the
family of late Thapa.
The bench of
Dailekh court judge Dilli Ratna Shrestha had on Sunday announced two year's
jail sentence against the accused Nirak Bahadur Gharti, Hari Lal Punmagar and
Jaya Bahadur Shahi whereas 18 months in prison to Laxmi Ghartimagar, who had
confessed of burying the dead body. RSS
