Kathmandu, Nov 11: The meeting on
Tuesday of the CA Constitutional-Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee
held inconclusively after the major three parties' stuck to their respective
position.
The Committee meeting was held at
Singha Durbar to seek a consensus in the major contentious issues of the forthcoming
constitution.
At the meeting, NC and CPN-UML urged
the CPDCC Chair Dr Baburam Bhattarai to take their proposal before the
Constituent Assembly.
The opposition parties including the
UCPN (Maoist) and Madhes-centric parties however said that there was no
alternative to a consensus, and suggested keeping the proposal of the ruling
parties only as a reference document.
Talking to reporters following the
meeting, CPDCC Chair Dr Bhattarai said deliberations for a consensus did not
yet any result.
He also said that a consensus was
also essential as per the CA Legislature-Parliament rules of procedure to take
the NC-UML proposal before the CA.
NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel
however said that the NC-UML proposal would be tabled before the CA following deliberations on Wednesday.
He said a consensus was still
possible even after sending the contentious issues in the form of a
questionnaire to the CA.
Meanwhile, CPDCC Chair Dr Bhattarai
has proposed to senior leaders of the major political parties to form a
mechanism of only the senior leaders in the CPDCC in order to forge a consensus
on the contentious issues of the new constitution.
The proposal was made during
informal discussion held with leaders of
NC, UML, UCPN-M, RPP, MJF-D and others at his office in Singha Durbar.
However, NC leaders are said to have
rejected the proposal. RSS
