Kathmandu, Nov 11: The Nepal Student Union's 11th  National General Convention is slated to be held from 16-18 November in Kirtipur.

A meeting of Nepali Congress party office-bearers on Tuesday fixed the date of the NSU General Convention.

The meeting also amended the proposed statute NSU submitted by trimming down the size of office-bearers and members.

Accordingly, the NSU will now have a 121-member Central Committee with one President, two General Secretaries with one elected and another nominated, seven Vice Presidents, eight Assistant General Secretaries and one Treasurer.

Student leaders Manojmani Acharya, Chitij Bhandari, Kundan Kafle, Deepak Bhattarai, Kedar Karki, Nilkantha Rijal, Deepak Adhikari and Baburam Koirala, Jitjung Basnet, Nainsingh Mahar, Shuvaram Basnet are in fray as candidates for the post of NSU President.

Likwise, students leaders Urmila Thapaliya, Motilal Bhandari, Manoj Koirala, Ratna Karki and Saroj Thapa among others are contending for the post of General Secretary whereas more than 500 candidates are vying for other positions.

In view of the upcoming 18th SAARC Summit, NSU will use social networking sites as facebook, twitter and other online medium for publicity of the Convention and not use banners, graffiti, paintings and flags, informed Motilal Bhandari, Convention Publicity Coordinator.

The Convention will lay special attention to issues of corruption, black marketing, inflation, Nepal Bandh (general strike), transport strike and strikes in educational institutions and donation. RSS
