Kathmandu, Nov 11: The Nepal Student
Union's 11th National General
Convention is slated to be held from 16-18 November in Kirtipur.
A meeting of Nepali Congress party
office-bearers on Tuesday fixed the date of the NSU General Convention.
The meeting also amended the proposed
statute NSU submitted by trimming down the size of office-bearers and members.
Accordingly, the NSU will now have a
121-member Central Committee with one President, two General Secretaries with
one elected and another nominated, seven Vice Presidents, eight Assistant
General Secretaries and one Treasurer.
Student leaders Manojmani Acharya,
Chitij Bhandari, Kundan Kafle, Deepak Bhattarai, Kedar Karki, Nilkantha Rijal,
Deepak Adhikari and Baburam Koirala, Jitjung Basnet, Nainsingh Mahar, Shuvaram
Basnet are in fray as candidates for the post of NSU President.
Likwise, students leaders Urmila
Thapaliya, Motilal Bhandari, Manoj Koirala, Ratna Karki and Saroj Thapa among
others are contending for the post of General Secretary whereas more than 500
candidates are vying for other positions.
In view of the upcoming 18th
SAARC Summit, NSU will use social networking sites as facebook, twitter and
other online medium for publicity of the Convention and not use banners, graffiti,
paintings and flags, informed Motilal Bhandari, Convention Publicity
Coordinator.
The Convention will lay special
attention to issues of corruption, black marketing, inflation, Nepal Bandh
(general strike), transport strike and strikes in educational institutions and
