Kathmandu,
Nov 16: A Hollywood motion picture 'Sold' is being screened here in the capital
city heralding the launch of an anti-trafficking campaign 'Taught, not
Trafficked'.
At
a press conference held on Sunday Childreach Nepal informed that the campaign would start from Tuesday.
The
movie directed by Oscar winner Jeffrey D Brown is based on a novel by Patricia McCormick. The movie's major character goes by the name 'Laxmi' who is sold
in an Indian brothel at the tender age of 13. She is duped into trafficking
with false promises of an employment in foreign country.
On
the occasion, Director Brown said he was always motivated by a dream of
becoming the agent of change and found such a topic after reading McCormick's novel.
The
producer of the movie Jane Charles said that in course of our research for a
new movie they met with girls who were able to escape from the red light areas
of India and Nepal after being sold there and it was because of this that she
has not only become a producer but a rights activist, and this movie has
heralded a change in her life.
The
research has revealed that 10,000 to 20,000 girls between 12-18 years of age
from Nepal have been sold in various countries. They are forced into flesh
trade in India and countries in the Middle East.
The
movie will start screening from Tuesday at the Kumari Cinema. RSS
