Kathmandu, Nov 13: Individuals in the
music sector have been worried over gradual decline of traditional essence from
the present-day Nepali songs and music.
Speakers at a programme on 'change and
influence in modern song writing' held by Nepal Music and Drama Academy on
Thursday, said that degeneracy has taken hold in name of modernism and called
for injection of renewed traditional values in the Nepali songs and music.
Rastrakavi Madhav Prasad Ghimire said
that the songs without traditional spirit can have influence over a short
period but would hold no meaning in the long run. He stressed for preserving
traditional values in the music sector.
However, lyricist Dr Krishnahari Baral
said the change taking place over not only songs but also rhythm and music
should be viewed positively while stressing the need for alertness towards
possible spread of decadence.
Lyricist and film director Yadav Kharel
said the change sought by the new generation was not unusual.
Furthermore, lyricist Rajendra Thapa
said the change taking place over Nepali songs and music was in line with
contemporary time, and added it was in accordance to the choice and desire of
the young generation.
The participants also underlined the
necessity for controlling profanity in Nepali music which has been increasing
in the name of modernization. RSS
